Floyd Henry Allport. Institutional Behavior: Essays Toward a Re-Interpreting of Contemporary Social Organization. Chapel Hill, North Carolina: University of North Carolina Press (1933): vii-x.
We have included excerpts from this book as evidence of Allport's continuing attachment to the critique of sociological and anthropological concepts in Social Psychology.
In his autobiography, he stated that after 1927 "I did not make any such statements implying the all-sufficiency of purely individual processes in explaining social phenomena." The statement was a reference to his paper at the December 1927 meeting of the American Sociological Society.
A close reading of these papers is needed if you are going to accept 1927 as the date he stopped his assault on concepts near and dear to Sociology and Anthropology. They can easily be interpreted as a continuation of his previous critique.
