Spring 2015

Foraging

If you have an interest in learning to forage for wild edible plants, join this one-day workshop. You will be introduced to some of the many edible plants found on the Niagara escarpment during the spring. This class will help you identify both edible and poisonous plants in the field, ethical wild crafting and proper harvesting techniques. Saturday June 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Meditation
Have you tried to meditate and become aware of how frustratingly busy your mind is? Each evening we will explore different practices that encourage breathing, relaxation and well-being. Join us for 1.5 hours of meditation after a long day at work or with the kids.
 
Game Design for adults
September 21 (one day)
Interested in seeing what how much fun your kids are having in Game Design? This is your chance to learn how to create your very own video game. Learn how to build worlds, control your characters and eventually test play your game… just like your kids!
 
Math for Parents
September 28 (one day)
Math homeworkcan be intimidating for parents and kids alike but it doesn’t have to be. Join us in a hands-on look at how your kids will learn and use math in the 21st century. Enjoy learning new strategies  to support and encourage your kids at school and home.

Conversational French

Whether you’re interested in keeping up with the young ones in French immersion or you’re leaving for a French speaking destination - this course is for you. Review vocabulary by theme, and use French by pairing with others while role-playing real life scenarios. Discussion and active participation are a must.

Mental Health strategies for Parents

November 9
This workshop will share tips, tools and strategies on how to best support your child with mental health challenges. Discussion and activities will focus on how to discuss mental health; tips for helping those who don't want help; and wellness strategies for becoming healthy & happy.
 
Adobe
Enjoy 2 hours of tips and tricks through interesting and exciting project-based lessons. Get ready to learn the basics of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator Adobe InDesign. Begin to design and create print material that jumps from desktop publishing to graphic design.

Conversational French part 2
Looking for more? In this class you’ll have the opportunity to continue to practice your French skills through group discussion and active participation.  This course is a continuation of Conversational French part 1 and will build on the skills that you have already learned.

YU YOUTH LEADERS - New for Summer 2015!

We have designed these special interest workshops to build knowledge in a friendly, supportive and enjoyable environment. Special Interest Programs take place on campus in the evening or on weekends and have various costs. Registration is open up to one week before the workshops begin but you are best to sign-up early as they often sell-out!

Cancellation by phone or in writing must be received at least seven days prior to the published course start date. Cancellation requests received before the seven-day deadline will result in fees being refunded, less a $20 administration fee per course.
