The Heritage Lodge No. 730 of the Grand Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Canada in Ontario will present a gift
of $10,000 to Brock to ensure the James A. Gibson Library's ability to promote, support and conserve
the Masonic collection.
Grand Master Gary L. Atkinson of the Grand Lodge of Canada A.F. and A.M., Worshipful Master Victor
Cormack, and Secretary Samuel Forsythe of Heritage Lodge No. 730, a research lodge, will present the
cheque to Dr. Jack N. Lightstone, President and Vice-Chancellor, and Margaret Grove, University
Librarian, at a reception to be held at the University on Sunday, Oct. 29.
Through the significant donations of Dr. Charles A. Sankey - former Chancellor of Brock University -
Lawrence Runnalls and the Standring family, the Masonic collection numbers more than 1,200 works,
one of the largest collections of books on Freemasonry at any Canadian university.
This extensive collection offers researchers and readers an opportunity to learn more about the
Masonic fraternity and explore the relationship between Freemasonry and the social and political
history of Ontario.
The $10,000 endowment is intended to support the Masonic collection in four ways:
- to purchase books to further the collection's development
- to sponsor a public event / lecture to raise awareness of the collection
- to subsidize the creation of a website featuring the collection
- to conserve and ensure the health of the collection
