Youngsters from the Niagara region will have the opportunity to go to university once again this
summer with Summer Enrichment Camps for Kids run by Youth University at Brock. This year the camp
will offer a roster of 49 new learning programs and will also be partnering with Reach for the Rainbow
to provide new opportunities to young people with disabilities in Niagara.
Reach for the Rainbow is a registered charity that assists children and young adults with developmental
and physical disabilities across Ontario. Through their tested model of integrated programming,
training and active resource support, Reach for the Rainbow works with organizations to help disabled
children and youth fully participate in summer camps and community programs.
"These programs give Brock an opportunity to extend facilities and resources into the community and
allow young people to get a taste of university life," says Kate Cassidy, Director, Youth University.
"Programs are overseen by a certified teacher and instructed by Brock students. This is a wonderful
opportunity for students to gain valuable experience teaching in their respective area of study."
This year's programs, for youngsters in Grades 3 to 8, include science, engineering, robotics,
journalism, debating, entrepreneurship, popular mechanics and much more. Days will be split into two
parts, combining hands-on educational learning with recreational activities such as swimming, high
ropes, and team-building games.
Registration for the camps officially opens on Monday, March 6, however, Youth University will host a
launch party to preview the 49 new programs to be offered this summer on Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 6 to
8 p.m., in Pond Inlet. This early bird registration event offers those who have previously participated in
the camps a chance to register from 6 to 7 p.m., with the general public able to register from 7 to 8
p.m. Space is expected to fill up quickly.
