Fees 2005-2006

To calculate the total fees owing graduate students must add together I: Tuition, II: Mandatory Ancillary Fees and III: Other Applicable Fees.

To fully estimate the financial resources required for graduate study, each graduate student must determine the fees to be paid for tuition, mandatory ancillary fees, other applicable fees, living expenses, etc. and the amount of graduate funding support provided (where applicable). I: Tuition

Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Business Economics and PhD
Graduate Fees are charged on a per term basis. All full-time students must pay for at least one full year (3 terms). (Canadian Fees also apply to Landed Immigrants.)

Continuing Registration Fee:
Continuing Fees for full-time and part-time students who have completed all course work and submitted the first draft of the major essay or thesis will be $262.90 per term. The thesis or major paper must be completed within the academic term for which the first draft fee is assessed.

* The continuation fee will be assessed once the student has submitted a signed copy of the Graduate Student Record Form to the Office of Graduate Studies with proof that the first draft of the thesis/major essay has been approved by the student's supervisor and program.

Health Services Fee
A non-refundable Health Services Fee, which covers the operating costs of the health facilities on campus will be charged in the Fall/Winter as follows:

Mandatory Graduate Students Association Ancillary Fees

Graduate Students Association Fee
The Graduate Students' Association (GSA) is a student organization that represents the interests of all graduate students at Brock University. The GSA is administered by an executive which is elected each April for the coming year. At registration, all graduate students at Brock become members of the GSA by virtue of a fee paid with tuition). Graduate Students Association Services Fee

Comprehensive Health & Drug Plan

In April 2003 graduate students passed a referendum in favour of negotiating a health plan for full-time students. All full-time graduate students are automatically assessed the health plan fee with their tuition. Part-time students may opt into the plan. Universal Transit Bus Pass Fee (U-Pass)

Changes to Student Visa Status
International students studying on student visas (study permits) whose immigration status changes or those who may be eligible for the regular tuition fees but are charged the international student fees, must present official documentation to the Graduate Studies Office. To affect a change in fees for a particular academic term, the documentation must be presented prior to the start of the term.

UHIP for International Students
As of July 1, 1994, international students were no longer covered by OHIP insurance.
Therefore, all international students are required to pay for the mandatory health insurance plan UHIP (University Health Insurance Plan). Single person coverage for 12 months from September 2005 to August 2006 is $528.00. For detailed information relating to this plan please contact Brock's Office of International Services

Payment of Fees

Master of Accounting, Master of Arts, Master of Business Administration, Master of Business Economics, Master of Science and Doctoral Programs

Fees for full-time and part-time students are on a term-by-term basis and are payable at the time of registration for each term.

For those students receiving external or internal funding, the funding will be processed through the student financial account and applied first against tuition and ancillary fees, the balance, where applicable, is given to the student in the form of a lump sum payment by cheque.

Non-payment of Fees and Penalties
Registration will not be processed unless all previous debts to the University have been paid.

Full-time and part-time students who have not paid their fees by the prescribed due dates will be assessed service charges on the outstanding balance. These charges will continue to be assessed on the unpaid balance at monthly intervals. (At a rate of $3/$100 owing.)

It is sometimes not possible to invoice students for all fees owing once per term thus as a result students may receive multiple invoices per term. All balances must be paid in full in each term or special payment arrangements made with Finance in order for a student to be eligible to proceed.

Failure to comply with University regulations regarding payments owed to the University may result in the cancellation of the student's registration or withdrawal from the program. This process does not reduce the amount of fees owing or waive the University's legal right to collect outstanding fees.

Academic sanctions are applied to any student who has an outstanding financial obligation to the University. The following sanctions will be imposed:
·   denial of registration for a term
·   withholding academic results
·   not issuing academic transcripts
·   withholding degree
·   no scheduling of thesis defense
The above sanctions shall be in force until such time as indebtedness has been cleared to the satisfaction of the University.

1.  Via Internet, telephone or ATM
  Banking services at Scotia Bank, Royal Bank, CIBC, Bank of Montreal, TD Canada Trust and most Ontario Credit Unions. Payment should show on your account within 24-48 hours.
2.In person at any branch of the above financial institutions except Credit Unions. Payment should show on your account within 5 business days.
3.Mail cheque or money order to the address listed on your statement. Payment should show on your account within 10 business days.

Tuition Fees at Withdrawal

Master of Business Administration

Withdrawal notification, in writing, must be received by the Office of Graduate Studies by the dates noted below for the 2005-2006 academic year. Discontinuing attendance at classes, notification to the instructor, or stopping payment on a cheque presented at registration, does not constitute official withdrawal.

Master of Accountancy

Full-time
If a full-time student registered in the program withdraws during the first month of the term they will receive a credit equal to 1/3 of the tuition fee. They will also receive a full credit for any subsequent terms for which they were charged or paid. Mandatory ancillary fees may be non-refundable.

If a full-time student withdraws one month or later after a term begins, they will not be entitled to a credit for that term, but will receive a credit for any subsequent term for which they have been charged or paid. Master of Arts, Master of Science, Master of Business Economics and Doctoral Programs
If a graduate student, registered in one of their first three terms, withdraws during the first month of any of those terms, they will have their account credited 1/3 of the total tuition fees for that term. **Graduate students who are receiving either internal or external graduate funding, and withdraw from the university, will be have their student financial accounts assessed on a pro-rata basis to the nearest month for all fellowship/scholarship funds received and will be informed of the amount of funds they owe or will receive as refunds.
