Niagara Sustainability Initiative "Most Impactful Initiative"
Brock University joined the Niagara Sustainability Initiative (NSI) in 2011 as a “Committing Partner” in The Carbon Project and set an emissions reduction target of 20% (at the “Bronze” level) over the period of 2013 to 2023.
 
At the NSI’s 3rd Annual Evening of Recognition, held Wednesday, May 28, 2014, Brock University was recognized with the "Most Impactful Initiative Award."  The University was chosen based on initiatives completed in the 2013 year that resulted in the greatest reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in a particular scope. For Brock there was a significant reduction in the Scope 2 (Electricity Consumption) category. 
 
The two other Carbon Project partners that received awards were:
“Most Engaged Partner” – Walker Industries
“Greatest Progress” – Quartek Group Inc.

General Electric Proof Not Promises Award

Given to Brock University to obtain at least $25,000 in savings thanks to the installation of new, more eco-friendly equipment.

General Electric Return on Environment Award

Given to Brock University for reducing waste, water consumption or improving air quality.

Facilities management saves Brock $30K, wins awards

Horizon Utilities Energy Excellence Award

Brock University received an Energy Excellence Award for installing new, energy efficient light fixtures.

Green Housekeeping Site Gold Certification

The certification recognizes Brock University's use of a program focused on educating custodial supervisors and staff about healthy cleaning by promoting health, safety and environmental responsibility in cleaning services. It takes into account indoor air quality, waste and recycling, and other sustainable initiatives on campus.

Brock University is Canada’s sixth Fair Trade Campus - second in Ontario after Guelph - to be designated by Fairtrade Canada.

Brock University is the first organization to achieve leader status within the Region’s Sustainable Niagara plan, a 50-year community plan that emphasizes sustainability in Regional government decision-making. The leader level is the plan’s highest level of commitment to sustainability that can be achieved.
