Programs

Women's and Gender Studies offers a single or combined major program in Women's Studies, with either a Humanities, Science or Social Science Discipline, leading to a pass or honours degree. The Centre for Women's and Gender Studies also offers a Certificate in Women's Studies. It provides an overview for interested persons who already have a degree in a different field or who do not wish to proceed to a degree. It is of special interest to people working in a related field. The admission requirements are the same as for the degree program. Prospective students should consult with the Director before beginning the certificate program. The certificate is awarded upon completion of at least five credits in WISE with and overall average of 60 percent.

Students in other disciplines can obtain a minor in Women's Studies within their degree program by completing the following courses with a minimum of 60 percent overall average.

In addition, students may select courses from disciplines across the University (Humanities, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Education, Business, Physical Education, Recreation and Leisure). All faculty teaching within the Women's Studies Program are committed to providing an outstanding undergraduate experience, by emphasizing the importance of women's perceptions, experiences and self-definition. Due to the level of community interest in, and support for, Women's Studies, the program promotes activities and encourages research that benefits both the Brock community and the women in the greater Niagara Region. It provides a forum for community issues of relevance to women and maintains a liaison with community organizations.
