SHOULD I TAKE PSYC 1F90 OR PSYC 1F25?

PSYC 1F90 is required for all psychology majors, and is a prerequisite for nearly all upper year psychology courses. If you think you might be interested in declaring a major or minor in psychology at some point, you should take PSYC 1F90. PSYC 1F90 is required for some programs other than psychology. Please check your program requirements or consult your academic advisor if you have questions about this. Both PSYC 1F90 and PSYC 1F25 are considered social science context credits.

PSYC 1F90 students will attend 2 hours of lecture and one seminar per week. You must register in both a lecture and seminar component. Once you have registered, check the course Sakai site for further details regarding the course outline, required materials, etc. If you have questions or want to be put on the waitlist for PSYC 1F90, please email the course coordinator at psyc1f90@brocku.ca.

PSYC 1F25 is an introductory psychology course intended for those who would like to learn about psychology but who know they will not declare a major or minor in psychology and do not require PSYC 1F90 for their program. Some programs (for example, Nursing) allow students to choose whether they complete PSYC 1F90 or 1F25 for their psychology requirement. Please consult your program requirements or academic advisor for further information.  Both PSYC 1F90 and PSYC 1F25 are considered social science context credits.

If you think you may want to take further courses in psychology, or declare a major or minor in psychology at some point, PSYC 1F25 is not the course for you. In this case, you should take PSYC 1F90. If you take PSYC 1F25 and then decide you wish to take further studies in psychology, you will have to take PSYC 1F90 at that point. Nearly all upper year psychology courses require PSYC 1F90, not 1F25.

PSYC 1F25 is a blended course, meaning that students will typically attend 2 hours of lecture and complete online exercises each week. On the occasional week you will be required to attend a third in-classroom hour. Therefore, you must register in both a lecture and the hour-long tutorial session (which will not be held every week). Once you have registered, check the course Sakai site for further details regarding the course outline, required materials, etc. If you have questions or want to be put on the waitlist for PSYC 1F25, please email the course coordinator at psyc1f90@brocku.ca.
