Adult programs are designed to support beginner through intermediate artists in a supportive environment. The limited class size allows for personalized one-on-one instruction. Class projects change each time a class is offered, so returning participants are always welcomed. Class fees include materials unless otherwise specified.

WATERCOLOURS: Techniques for Beginners (Part 1)

If you are a watercolour beginner or want to refresh your painting techniques, Beginners Techniques is designed to provide you with the basics required for successful watercolour painting. Instruction will include: wet-on-wet, dry-on-wet, shading, values, washes, use of masking fluid, and other essential techniques. Then develop these skills in Watercolours Part 2 (see below).

Part 1 & 2: Thursdays (7 sessions), January 29 – March 12, 6:30 – 8:30

WATERCOLOURS: Painting Studio (Part 2)

Instructor: Jana Simms-Bergsma
This course is dedicated to the love of watercolour painting. Learn to paint in traditional methods and also experiment with watercolours mixing many techniques while examining the importance of composition, value and colour. Explore a variety of painting styles and brushwork as you develop your skills. In the final classes you will receive one-on-one instruction as you work towards a larger finished piece inspired by a famous art work or a personal photograph.

Part 2: Thursdays (6 sessions), February 5 – March 12, 6:30 -8:30 pm
Register by: Thursday, January 22, 12 noon
FEE $135 {$152.55 including HST}

COURSE FEE INCLUDES PAINTING KIT ($30 value)
This kit includes a 12 colour palette of Yarka semi-moist Watercolour Paints, a variety of brushes, a mounting board and a pad of high quality watercolour paper. These materials are yours to keep at the conclusion of the program. ** Other optional materials will be provided for your use during class.

NEW** EXPLORING OILS (Water Soluble)

As an introduction to the fundamentals of water-soluble oil painting, this course aims to develop introductory and intermediate skills through the process of analyzing, recording and interpreting the world through the medium of painting. Have fun in a supportive environment while honing your creative and technical painting skills. Led by Niagara Artist Candace Couse, participants will engage with this medium by exploring painting methods, colour theory and composition.

Thursdays (7 sessions), March 26 – May 7, 6:30 - 8:30

COURSE FEE INCLUDES PAINTING KIT ($60 value)
This kit includes: Windsor and Newton water mixable oil paints (6 colours x 21 ml), linseed oil, a selection of synthetic and hog hair paint brushes, a paint palette, and 5 painting surfaces (3 panels and 2 canvas boards in a variety of sizes). These materials are yours to keep at the conclusion of the program. ** Other optional materials will be provided for your use during class.
