Welcome - Brock University Retirees Association (BURA)
The Brock University Retirees Association was founded in 1997 as an organization open to all former employees of Brock who have retired from the University. Full membership in BURA is also available to the surviving spouses/partners of retirees who were full members of BURA at the time of their death, as well as to any surviving spouse/partner of a faculty or staff member who died while employed by the University and who, at the time of his/her death, was eligible for retirement as defined by the University. There is also an Associate Membership category that is defined in the BURA Constitution and available for viewing on this web site. Membership in BURA is mandatory for those retirees who choose to continue their medical insurance coverage with Green Shield.
The mission of BURA is to keep its members in touch with each other and with the University, and to undertake events as appropriate for the enrichment of retirees. Although BURA deals with many issues relevant to Brock retirees, the major focus is the planning and offering of monthly social activities from September through June that facilitate the gathering and interaction of its members. These activities include luncheons with speakers or entertainment, outings to local theatre productions and sporting events, tours of interesting sites in the Niagara region, and an annual general meeting. The current (December, 2011) membership of BURA is 189. BURA is also affiliated with the College and University Retirees Association of Canada (CURAC).
