Registration Guide and Timetable2012-2013 Fall/Winter

Online Timetables

The Timetable

Once you have prepared a list of the courses you wish to take, you will need to consult the on-line timetable to determine course availability and whether or not your courses will work in a weekly schedule. To find out when a certain course will be offered, select the course subject on the main timetable page. From that point on, you can navigate through the timetable via the pop-up subject menu in the top right corner of the screen.

Timetable Legend

Col. 1: Catalogue Number
Col. 2: Course notes
Col. 3: Course code (and description)
Col. 4: Duration
Col. 5: Component type
Col. 6: Section
Col. 7: Days offered
Col. 8: Time offered
Col. 9: Location
Col. 10: Instructor

The timetable is displayed in a ten-column format. On each line, one course component is listed. (Courses are divided into course components). The timetable should look something like the picture above.

Catalogue number: Each offering listed on the timetable has a unique catalogue number. These numbers can be used in the on-line registration process. As a general rule, however, it is not necessary to keep track of the catalogue numbers, unless you are selecting your courses before the registration system opens. See Adding a Course for more information.

Course notes: Click on the note code (i.e., ES, OB) for important information on course offerings, including: restrictions on the course, registration restrictions (i.e., "Open to until ."), or special instructions (i.e., "Contact the Director prior to first class."). Registration in a course component confirms your acknowledgement of all notes applying to that component.

Course note "a": Held in reserve

What does it mean?
Some courses have offerings listed as "held in reserve." This hold must be lifted by the department/centre offering the course before you can register in the course.

Course code: This code corresponds to the course codes listed in the Undergraduate Calendar. Click on the course code for the course description.

Duration (D#): Durations denote the start and end date range for the course.

For a list of the Durations and subsequent start and end dates, please click here to access the timetable.

Component type: Most courses are made up of a primary component (typically the lecture) and one or more secondary component(s) (seminar, lab, tutorial, etc.). When more than one lecture/seminar/lab/tutorial/etc. is offered for a course, you must choose one of each component type. Component types include:

FLD field study SEM seminar
LAB laboratory SL seminar/lab
LEC lecture THE thesis
LL lecture/lab TL tutorial/lab
LS lecture/seminar TOP topic
LSL lecture/seminar/lab TUT tutorial
LT lecture/tutorial WWW web-based course
PRO project WRK work term
RES research

Section: A course section is the number assigned to each offering within a course component type. For courses with many of one component type offered (i.e., 3 lectures), section numbers help distinguish between course offerings and times. You must attend the section you register for. Section numbers are also important for assignments, examinations and tests, as instructors will sometimes ask you to include it on these items.

Days: When the course is offered each week

M Monday
T Tuesday
W Wednesday
R Thursday
F Friday
S Saturday

Please note that multiple days may be listed in a single offering of a course. In these cases, you are expected to attend all weekdays as listed.

Time: What time the class is held each week.
DEPT=see department for more information

Location: A room assignment of where the class will be held each week. A map is available to assist you in finding on-campus locations.
TBS=to be scheduled

Instructor: The scheduled professor/instructor of the course.
TBA=to be announced
