Second Degree Admission Criteria

Second Degree Admission Criteria

An individual who wishes to pursue a second undergraduate degree must:

  • have successfully completed the first degree with a minimum 65 percent overall average, although many programs require higher averages where honours standing is a requirement
  • fulfill all the specific requirements of each degree program including prerequisites, co-requisites and honours standing requirements (where appropriate).
  • An applicant who holds a bachelor's degree may be allowed to pursue undergraduate studies leading to a second bachelor's degree of the same or another designation under the following conditions:
  • the principal area of study or academic emphasis must be distinct from that of the first degree (for example, an applicant with a Bachelor of Arts in History may not apply for a second Bachelor of Arts in History, they may however apply for a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature);
  • the student must complete, with satisfactory standing, at least 50 percent more credits beyond the first degree;
  • in order to obtain the second degree the student must meet all program requirements for the degree**
  • any departure from the above must be approved by the Dean of the appropriate Faculty.

**While every effort is made to grant maximum transfer credit, the specific requirements for the second degree may not allow all transfer credit to fit within the degree.
