The Faculty of Graduate Studies is very pleased to be the first to honour Professor Emeritus Dr. Jack Miller for his significant contributions to Brock University over more than 40 years.
Beginning this year, as many as 12 of the best and brightest graduate student researchers from our six academic Faculties will be selected to receive the Jack M. Miller Excellence in Research Award.
Jack Miller actually established a research award for graduate students while serving as Associate Vice-President of Research and Dean of Graduate Studies from 1999 to 2005. We will mark the 10-year anniversary of the award by naming it in honour of Jack and by building upon what he began. Our goal is to increase the value of the awards as we go forward.
The Brock community is invited to join in this tribute to Jack by donating to the award.
Your donation represents an investment in graduate students. We count on graduate students to be our hands-on support of faculty researchers. As well, we look to them to make a mark as researchers in their own right. Awards provide our students with much-needed financial support, allowing them to devote time and energy to advancing research and scholarship at Brock.
Donations to the Jack M. Miller Excellence in Research Award qualify for matching funds through the Ontario Graduate Fellowship Program. That means the value of your contribution will double and go further in our efforts to invest in our students.
Jack Miller has worked tirelessly to build Brock’s reputation for graduate education and research excellence. He has played a part in the planning and design of every campus expansion, dating back to Brock’s humble beginnings at the base of the Glenridge hill. As a consultant on facilities for researchers, his expertise has been invaluable.
Beyond bricks and mortar, Jack has been a leader in Brock’s strategic direction to position itself as a comprehensive university, known for excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, and research and innovation. As AVP, Research and Dean of Graduate Studies, he tripled the number of graduate programs at Brock in a way that would ensure students receive a quality research and scholarship experience throughout their graduate career. On his watch, research funding at Brock skyrocketed from $2 million to $15 million.
Jack has made profound contributions to Brock. Please consider adding to his remarkable legacy through a donation to this very prestigious award for graduate students.
