Teaching 2012-2013:
Research:
My research interests lie in the areas of Greek historiography and Greek history, especially Greek warfare, mercenaries and military officers and officials. Current pursuits include investigations into “Light Infantry” in Classical Greece such as: the use of terminology for light infantry in the Classical historians; perceptions of the status of different types of light infantry; vocabulary for shaft weapons (doru, doration, akontion, palton, etc.)
Current projects include studies of: Nikostratos of Argos (active ca. 365-340 BCE); a study of the textual transmission of Cicero Brutus 104 (re: “Diophanes” of Mytilene); the usage of terminology for ‘light infantry’ in Herodotos, Thucydides, Xenophon and their contemporaries.
