Antivirus
Brock University is dedicated to maintaining a malware-free environment in all of its labs, offices, and classrooms. To ensure this, Brock has trusted the services of McAfee to protect machines on the campus from malware. Users will need to maintain their own personal / home computers.
Faculty/Staff Office Computers
Brock University supports the corporate editions of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise + AntiSpyware Enterprise (for Windows and Macintosh) on campus. The McAfee antivirus system includes the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator tool which allows ITS to distribute virus definitions (DATs) and product upgrades as they become available as well as receive alerts for outbreaks on campus.
McAfee VirusScan Enterprise cannot be installed on a home / personal computer.

Students are required to provide and maintain their own antivirus protection. Students living in the residences should install an antivirus package prior to arrival.

General Antivirus Tips
- Update as frequently as you can. Some companies provide weekly updates while others provide daily updates.
- Scan as much as possible. Although it is ideal to scan ALL FILES, it may cause older systems to run slowly. Some programs may provide you an option to scan only "default" or "common" file types.
- Scan everything you download. Make certain to configure scans when downloading or receiving e-mails and that it is set to scan compressed files/attachments (e.g., .ZIP).
- Scan as often as possible. Schedule your antivirus program to do a scan of ALL FILES on the hard at least once a week (nightly if you receive and download files often). If you have turned off some features of your antivirus program to be less aggressive with the system, then setting up extra scans is highly recommended.
- Keep your subscription up-to-date. This varies between companies. Many companies provide free virus definitions, but program updates require you to be subscribed to their service. Some companies will not allow you to download anything without being subscribed.
Security Updates
All computers on the McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator system should receive updates automatically as they become available. Computers not running the McAfee ePolicy agent may schedule downloads on a regular basis. Virus definitions (DATs) and scan engines may be manually downloaded for McAfee VirusScan Enterprise from:
