Intermediate/Senior Admissions

(Grades 7-12)

Admissions Criteria for applicants applying to first year:

Concurrent BA (Honours)/BEd

• OUAC application code is BAI
• Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average high 80s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses, required English 4U and Mathematics 4U. French majors also require one of FSF4U, FEF4U or FIF4U.

This is a five-year program to complete an Honours degree with a major in one of: Dramatic Arts, English (first language), French (second language), Geography, History, and Visual Arts. A second teachable subject (minimum 3.0 credits) is completed. A BEd degree is also completed.

Concurrent BSc (Honours)/BEd

• OUAC application code is BII
• Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average of high 70s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses. For Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Physics majors: ENG4U, MHF4U or MCV4U (minimum 70%), SCH4U (minimum 70%), one from SBI4U, SPH4U, SES4U, second Mathematics 4U. Strongly recommended: Chemistry major a second Mathematics 4U; Physics major SPH4U.
• Mathematics majors: ENG4U, MHF4U, MCV4U (minimum 70% in both maths)
• Physical Geography majors: ENG4U, MHF4U or MCV4U (minimum 70%), one from SBI4U, SPH4U, SCH4U or SES4U. Strongly recommended: SCH4U (minimum 70%).
• Five-year program to complete an Honours degree with major in one of: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics, and Physics. A second teachable subject (minimum 3.0 credits) is completed. A BEd degree is also completed.

Concurrent BPhEd/BEd (Honours)/BEd

• OUAC application code is BPI
• Direct entry from secondary school, minimum average mid to high 80s in 6 Grade 12U/M courses, required English 4U, Biology SBI4U and Mathematics 4U.
• Strongly recommended subject: Excercise Science (PSE4U)

This is a five-year program to complete an Honours degree, single major in Physical Education. A second teachable subject (minimum 3.0 credits) is completed. A BEd degree is also completed.

Choices for the second teachable subject for Intermediate/Senior programs are: Dramatic Arts, English (first language), French (second language), Geography, History, Mathematics, Health and Physical Education, Science-Biology, Chemistry, General, Physics, Visual Arts.

These are limited enrolment programs. Although admissions will be primarily based on grades, other criteria, such as balance across teachable disciplines or teaching area of high need may be used in the selection process in any given year. Admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.

Note: The Department of Teacher Education reserves the right to assign concurrent education students in their final year, to either the Hamilton or St. Catharines campus in order to secure school placements aligned with teachable subjects. Students are responsible for their own transportation for practice teaching and other activities related to the program.

Second Year Entry to Intermediate/Senior Concurrent Education Programs:

Students may apply and be admitted to second year if there is space available. To apply students must have a minimum 70 percent overall average in Year 1; their Year 1 program must replicate the 5.0 credit concurrent program requirements; the secondary school English and Mathematics program admission requirements must be met and also Biology for the Physical Education Programs. Application form is available on the Concurrent Education web site from April 1, 2013. The completed document must be filed in the Concurrent Education Office by June 1, 2013. Late applications will not be accepted. Students should note that this is a limited enrolment program and admission is not guaranteed by attainment of the minimum requirements.
