What is Microsoft Outlook / Entourage?
Microsoft Outlook / Entourage is a multi-purpose application that supports e-mail, calendar, contacts, tasks, and other useful features. Do not confuse Outlook with Outlook Express. Microsoft Outlook Express is the free Internet mail and news program that comes with older versions of Windows. Microsoft Outlook is a full multi-purpose program that can work in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange server.

What is Microsoft Exchange Server?
Microsoft Exchange is server software that manages electronic mail, shared documents, and calendars. Although Microsoft Outlook and Entourage do not require a Microsoft Exchange server, Outlook and Entourage offer more functionality when used in conjunction with a Microsoft Exchange server.

How does Outlook/Entourage/OWA work with Exchange?
Microsoft e-mail client (Outlook or Entourage) contact the Exchange server, the Exchange server requests a username and password to identify and authenticate you as the legitimate owner of your e-mail, calendar, tasks, and notes. Once authorization is complete, Outlook / Entourage connects to the Exchange server and access to e-mail, calendar, tasks, and notes is granted. None of your e-mail data is stored in your computer.

Outlook Web Access (OWA) is a web hosted e-mail service and is hosted by Exchange.  As a web based service, it is accessible by any modern mainstream web browser regardless of the Operating System.  OWA can be accessed from anywhere via an internet connection.
