DeCew Res. Rm. 216/217
André Basson is the Christian Reformed Campus Minister at Brock University. He is a South African by birth who immigrated to Canada in 2000. He holds degrees in Classics (Latin and Greek) and Theology, as well as a doctorate in Latin from the Université de Provence in France. Before coming to Canada, he served as Navy Chaplain and taught Classics for close to twenty years. In 1996-1997, he was Visiting (Associate) Professor of Classics at Calvin College (Michigan). He was pastor of Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Niagara Falls (Canada) until 2004 when he became Brock CRC campus minister. He is currently also an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Dept. of Classics at the University of Buffalo (SUNY) and an Adjunct Professor in the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program at Brock.
André has a wide range of interests, but especially enjoys the Canadian outdoors. He tries to keep fit by working out in the Brock gym on a regular basis, swimming, and hiking with students. Having given up playing squash many years ago, he recently took up raquet ball. He is also a member of the St. Catharines Rowing Club, and the proud owner of a rowing single. He tries to support Brock sports events whenever possible, but confesses a preference for rugby, basketball, and hockey.
His tastes in music vary from classical to modern and, when it comes to reading, he is subscribed to a variet of magazines, literary journals and newspapers. He is particularly interested in literature, history, the relationship between religion and science, and ethics.
