James Porter, Ph.D.

Dr. Porter is a registered Clinical & Counselling Psychologist currently working primarily as a private practitioner. Dr. Porter's current practice is primarily in the field of Autism and Acquired Brain Injury. Dr. Porter returned to Canada from the United States in 2002 after completing a Ph. D. and an M.A. in psychology with an emphasis in Behaviour Analysis. Dr. Porter also holds an M.A. in Biopsychology from Lakehead University. Dr. Porter's academic experiences include teaching in both Canada and the United States at various universities and community colleges at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Dr. Porter has worked in the fields of Acquired Brain Injury, Behavioural Gerontology, and Developmental Disabilities and has conducted research in psychoneuroimmunology, gambling behaviour, developmental disabilities and dementia. He has publications on gambling and mental health issues in the elderly and has presented at international conferences on a variety of research topics. In addition to his work in these areas, Dr. Porter has completed post-graduate certificate programs in Couples, Family and Sex Therapy. Dr. Porter is also a certified Hypnotherapist. In addition to these vocational activities, Dr. Porter is currently busy in administrative activities associated with his position as Past-President of the Ontario Association for Behaviour Analysis and current President of the Canadian Association for Behaviour Analysis.
