Sexual Assault Awareness Programming:
In April 2008, JAB hosted a Forum on Sexual Assault that brought together experts from other university campuses, senior administrators, and interested student, staff and faculty members from our community, to discuss issues of sexual assault on university campuses and to collaborate on how to build awareness about sexual assault prevention and awareness on our campus. Building on the success of that forum, JAB then researched best practices in programming to prevent sexual assault and date rape at other universities in order to provide Brock with suggestions for improving programming at Brock.
Many other university campuses have a Women’s Resource Centre, Diversity Centre, Queer Students Centre, or other resource centre that provides space and services for students on a wide variety of issues, including women’s issues, safety programming, LGBTQ programming, anti-racism programming, etc. JAB is passionate about the development of a similar resource for students on our campus and has been working with Human Rights and Equity Services, Student Services, and Brock University Students’ Union to determine how best to achieve this. We are happy to say that we worked with committed students and BUSU to run a successful referendum this year to create a levy to raise funds for the creation and operation of a new Student Justice Centre for Education, Advocacy, Safe Space and Equity, that will be a BUSU run service. Congratulations to all involved in helping Brock to achieve this important milestone!! You can contact the Student Justice Centre at www.studentjusticecenter.com , firstname.lastname@example.org or ext. 6325. The centre is located in Decew Residence.
