The Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) recently awarded Dr. Christine Tardif-Williams (CHYS) a grant to study the process of using dogs in the classroom to act as reading buddies. Dr. Tardif-Williams asks "What is the possible role of dogs as a Reading Buddies in the classroom? This study aims to explore the possible role of dogs as Reading Buddies for grade one children. Specifically, this study aims to determine whether reading to a dog promotes young children’s reading (e.g., enjoyment and confidence) and social-emotional (e.g., empathy, compassion) competencies over the duration of the school year."
