On Friday, September 20, Brock University welcomed a delegation from Port-of-Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago, led by Mayor Louis Lee Sing. The delegates came to St. Catharines in honour of the 45th Twinning Anniversary between the cities of St. Catharines and Port-of-Spain.
Dr. Jack Lightstone, President & Vice-Chancellor, and Kim Meade, Vice-Provost and Associate Vice-President, Student Services welcomed the delegation at the Schmon Tower. Meghan Connolly and Victoria Maxmen, from Recruitment & Liaison Services, guided the delegation on a campus tour. The delegates had an opportunity to taste grapes from the Niagara Region as they passed through Brock’s Annual “Grape Stomp.”
After the tour, the delegates attended a formal welcome reception with Dr. Lightstone.
“We are very proud of playing a role in the Twinning of our two cities,” said Dr. Lightstone, who also spoke about the four-year Twinning Scholarship that is offered to one incoming student from Trinidad and Tobago each year.
“Being here at Brock University will be fondly remembered by me,” said Mayor Lee Sing. “I will tell everyone I meet about Brock, for this morning provided great insight into what you do here”.
During the reception, the delegates also had the opportunity to meet with faculty and staff including:

Later, some Trinidadian students who are studying at Brock dropped in to speak to Mayor Lee Sing and the delegates. The delegates had a pleasant conversation with the students. The students who were able to attend included several of the Twinning Scholarship Recipients.
The next day, during St. Catharines Mayor Brian McMullan’s Civic Ceremony, Grape Stomp, and Formal Reception in recognition of the 45th Anniversary of the Twinning at Montebello Park, Mayor Lee Sing commented that the visit to Brock was impressive and he was touched by the hospitality of the faculty and staff.
