Nomination Guidelines and Award Conditions
The Faculty of Humanities Award for Excellence in Research and Creative Activity is an internal award that recognizes a consistent track record of outstanding research or creative achievements appropriate to the nominee’s discipline.
Tenured and tenure-track members of the Faculty of Humanities are eligible. A nomination shall remain in competition for two years. Unsuccessful nominees may withdraw their application from consideration for the second year or may update their dossiers. After two competitions, unsuccessful nominees may be renominated through the usual nomination process.

Faculty members are to be nominated by two members of the Faculty of Humanities at Brock. The completed nomination form and the supporting documentation listed on page 4 of the Nomination Form should be submitted electronically to the Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, Faculty of Humanities.
The Associate Dean, Research and Graduate Studies, shall solicit letters from two internal and two external referees as identified on the nomination form.
Internal referees must be faculty members at Brock University who are familiar with the nominee’s research or creative accomplishments, and can speak to their significance.
External referees should have no conflict of interest and should be researchers of international stature who are familiar with the nominee’s work. External referees are in conflict of interest if they (1) are affiliated with Brock University; (2) have a personal relationship with the nominee (e.g., close friend, relative, former PhD or postdoctoral supervisor, former student, mentor); (3) have collaborated (published or been a co-researcher) with the nominee in the past 6 years.
Nominations will be adjudicated by the Advisory Board of the Humanities Research Institute, who will take into account the reports from the two internal and two external referees. The Committee recommends to the Dean, Faculty of Humanities, one or more of the nominees for the award, but it is not obliged to recommend any in a given year. The Dean, Faculty of Humanities, will make the final decision in consultation with the committee.
