Every year, The St. Catharines Standard [1] seeks members of the community to serve as volunteer columnists for the newspaper. The Community Voices section serves the important purpose of providing local perspective on a wide variety of issues.
Columnists serve an equally important role as members of The Standard’s community editorial board. Of the 13 Community Voices for 2012-2013 [2], four are from Brock University: chemist Ian Brindle [3]; educationist Darlene Ciuffetelli Parker [4] (who also sits on The Globe and Mail’s special advisory panel on education); political scientist Charles Conteh [5]; and nurse Lynn McCleary [6].
