Assurance of Learning at Brock University

The Goodman School of Business Vision is to provide undergraduate, graduate and professional education that transforms our students into innovative, articulate, and ethical citizens for the global business environment, creates and disseminates research of value to our stakeholders, and serves and enhances our community.

Our Mission is:

  • To provide an educational environment that encourages and facilitates innovation in excellence in research, teaching and service.
  • To support research that advances business scholarship and contributes to the betterment of society
  • To deliver comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs that integrate applied and theoretical approaches to business and society in all facets of business administration and accounting
  • To help students develop the breadth and depth of knowledge, intellectual flexibility, and skills necessary for successful professional careers that are socially responsible
  • To offer excellent extramural and placement opportunities and engage in international and corporate strategic alliances that provide value to both students and the broader stakeholder community.

Driven by this mission, the Goodman School of Business has designed an Assurance of Learning Program to gather data that can be used toward continuous improvement of our curricula and its management. The School of Business commits to the highest quality education for students to prepare them for successful careers in business. To do this the School regularly assesses learning in its academic programs to determine how successfully the programs are accomplishing the goals set out in the mission. This provides a platform for us to build on our strengths and focus on improvements to positively impact student learning opportunities and raise the quality of education our student receive.

Managed by the Learning Assurance Faculty Committee, the Assurance of Learning program is designed to assess each academic program and then use that information for continuous improvement of the program curricula and its learning outcomes. This data will consist of both direct and indirect assessment measures and will be used to inform faculty, facilitate academic curriculum reviews, and improve learning outcomes resulting in higher quality education for all Faculty of Business students.
