Four faculty members in the Applied Health Sciences find themselves recipients of BUAF grants (Brock University Advancement Fund).
The awards are internal to Brock, providing faculty members with research funding to prepare future research proposals seeking external funding.
Three faculty members from the Department of Community Health Sciences received BUAF seed grants, which are small-scale research or pilot projects with the prospect of being developed into mature research proposals.
The recipients each received $5000 of funding for the following research proposals:
Jian Liu, “Gestational diabetes and its health impact among women immigrant workers.”
Miya Narushima, “Sexual and reproductive health among migrant farm workers in Niagara: the influence of culture and gender.”
Evangelia Tsiani, “Role of SIRT1 in insulin signaling and insulin resistance.”
The fourth recipient was Sanghee Chun from the department of Recreation and Leisure Studies.
Sanghee was awarded a $1000 BUAF Special Purpose Grant that will enable her to travel this July to Edinburgh, UK for the “2012 International Conference of Leisure Studies Association.”
