School-based practica and field experiences are important components of Brock's teacher education programs.
The Primary/Junior and Junior/Intermediate teacher education programs comprise 11 weeks of practice teaching, divided into two teaching blocks. Download the P/J/I Academic Year Calendar for information about when the blocks are scheduled.

Intermediate/Senior and Technological Education Practica

International and Alternate Setting Practica
During the Fall term, teacher candidates will be invited to apply for a number of international and alternate setting practica opportunities. International and alternate setting practica are scheduled for Block 2b (P/J/I program) and Block 3 (I/S and Technological Education programs).
Reminder for all Practicum Placements - All teacher candidates – without exception – are required to have obtained a police records check with vulnerable sector screening prior to entering a school. Link here for more information.

Out-of Region Placements
An out-of-region placement is a placement in an Ontario school board that falls outside the catchment areas served by Brock’s teacher education program at the St. Catharines and Hamilton campuses.
Prior to applying for an out-of-region placement, teacher candidates should familiarize themselves with the relevant policies and procedures:
Note: Out-of-Region Applications will only be accepted via e-mail to email@example.com by the date given on the application form. Please remember to copy your Faculty Advisors on the email. Late application forms will not be accepted.
Outdoor & Environmental Education Placements
An Outdoor Education placement is a placement in an Ontario outdoor/environmental education centre:
Note: There is a $40.00 administrative cost associated with Outdoor & Environmental Education placements. Submit completed application forms (along with a money order for $40.00 made out to Brock University) to Michelle Smythe, Administrative Assistant, Practicum (WH109, St. Catharines campus).
In recent years, museum placements have been open to Primary/Junior/Intermediate teacher candidates and have taken place at the St. Catharines Museum, the Niagara Falls History Museum and Rodman Hall. More information about our museum placements (and the application process) will be provided by email with an additional information session scheduled in the Fall.

In recent years, our international placements have taken place in South Africa and Vietnam. More information on our international placements (and the application process) will be provided at an information session scheduled in the Fall.
Last year we introduced placements in a Montessori school setting for Primary/Junior/Intermediate teacher candidates. The placements took place at the Toronto Montessori Schools (TMS) which is located at Bayview Avenue and Hwy 7 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. During the placement, teacher candidates work under the supervision of the Montessori Educators (BEd qualified*) and engage in teaching experiences in a Montessori classroom. More information on our Montessori placements (and the application process) will be provided by email later in the Fall. Note: Please note that there are limited spaces.
