As a cancer survivor, Mary Kreis, professor at California University of Pennsylvania, has endured more than a Tour of Hope.
After a cross-country bicycle ride, while pregnant, Kreis was diagnosed with metastatic melanoma. After two surgeries while pregnant to remove the cancer, she gave birth to her daughter; Viva (for “live long”).
She was selected at one of 24 riders (12 being cancer survivors), Tour of Hope in 2005, as one of 24 riders; 12 being cancer survivors.
Travelling to Brock, Kreis shared her story along with themes in sport and social responsibility from her experience from the tour.
“Dr. Mary Kreis' has participated in our Sport and Social Responsibility class for the past two years, and her presentation has clearly resonated with our students” Says, Cheri Bradish, “Her experiences and knowledge aligns well with our course themes of corporate citizenship, and giving”.
