Residence Facilities Summer Student Assistant (2 positions)
Position Description
The Summer Assistant will be a part of the Residence Facilities Team, learning the day to day, as well as, the short & long term planning functions required in order to maintain our 6 student residences.
Under the direction of the Residence Facilities Management Team, the Residence Facilities Summer Student Assistant will:
- participate in unit by unit building inspections and inventory checks at end of term
- assist in compiling residence year end damage billings
- create an asset database of residence equipment and furnishings
- research and develop resources which support residence-based educational programming initiatives relating to the residence facilities (ie recycling programme, energy reduction promotions)
- assist in the organization and coordination of residence registration day
- aid in performing checks of safety & security equipment such as card swipe units and battery operated detectors
- assist in organizing, archiving, and storing files and resources
- participate in unit by unit building and inventory checks at end of summer to ensure units/rooms are ready for the arrival of students for fall terms
- assist in editing existing documents and brochures used to provide residence students with required "residence living" information and setting those up in a user friendly way on the website
Job Duties and Skills
During the term of the position will receive training on:
- The application used to manage the department website
- Residence system processes and procedures; especially in regards to maintenance and repair planning
- on various computer programs (including Microsoft Access and Publisher)
- a maintenance management system application
- room scheduling database application
- our residence inventory and inspection process
- fire alarm device testing

Rate of pay: $10.45/hour
Anticipated start and end dates
- 35 hours per week - April 28 through to September 1, 2013
Qualifications
- currently enrolled Brock student; preference will be given to those with residence experience
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
- resourceful; skilled in researching; proficient computer user
- ability to work both independently and in a team environment
- highly organized and attentive to detail
- demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
- knowledge of Brock University residences, Service Desks, and their facilities is an asset
- background and/or experience in the maintenance or custodial field is an asset
