2011/2012 Project SEEDers
<p>Nicole Jol's Sit and Knit program was what happened when she married her study of psychology with her love for knitting. She provided free knitting lessons to people on and off campus and brought like-minded people together to discusss a variety of real social issues in the community. <p>My name is Omar Mosquera. I work with DIG because I believe that Individuals should take action when something is wrong with their environment. DIG offers that outlet to individuals by working with them on growing and knowing their food. I thank Project SEED for helping us with some funding to continue helping ourselves and those around us to grow and know their food. Get excited! There is a community garden at Brock. <p>My name is Rebecca and I am involved with DIG (Develop Integrate and Grow) because I wanted be be part of a movement where people can provide for themselves and be part of something that brings people together. I want to learn about seeds, planting skills and more. <p>My name is Dan Lombardi, I am in my final year of studies at Brock University and part of the SIFE Brock Give Us Your Goods project. Give Us Your Goods encourages students to donate gently used clothing and furniture when they are moving out of their homes. These items are donated to local not-for-profits, creating a positive impact on the lives of individuals across the Niagara Region. Thanks to Project SEED we also have been able to grow our project through additional funding and by developing a network that has allowed us to partner up with Brock University Off Campus Living to further promote sustainable initiatives to students, landlords and staff. <p>Elyse McCreadie can attest to Project <span class="il">SEED's help in </span>providing support for the Feminist Action Collective. FAC got involved with Project SEED so they could create projects that everyone can enjoy and learn from, instead of focusing on bureaucratic methods to gain funding or spending too much time on fundraising.</p><p>PROJECT OUTCOMES:<br />1) Hosted the Vagina Monologues production and programming in Niagara <br />2) Contributed to a global activist movement to end violence against women and to prevent violence and protect abused women and girls</p>

<p>I'm Miso Gostimir and I have a passion for basketball. I grew up loving the sport and fantasizing about a professional basketball career, but it wasn't until I began my post-secondary studies that I realized the true value of the sport. The interpersonal skills and life lessons that can be acquired from a committed basketball career are treasures that I would like to share with everyone, and so with my funding from Project <span class="il">SEED</span>, I plan to organize basketball clinics for local underprivileged youth in order to give them an opportunity to appreciate and learn from basketball as much as I did.</p><p>PROJECT OUTCOMES:<br /><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS','sans-serif'">1) Idea planted, helpful connections in the community made</span></p>

<p>My name is Akwasi, I view myself as just a guy who saw many "what ifs". Many possibilities, many potentials, etc. I began to get involved within my community because I wanted to help people. I used to feel the need wait until the perfect situation arose - but it turns out I am neither patient nor perfect, so I started thinking "why not NOW!?" Why not do something about what I see? There is always room for improvement with me and always a need that can be found. Project SEED enables us, as students, to take our "what if" ideas and turn them into "why nots" and create positive change. <p>My name is Mark Wagenaar and I am a second year business admin co-op student who is involved in Project SEED via Give Us Your Goods. I got involved in GUYG because I think it is a wonderful opportunity for me to use the knowledge I learn in the classroom and apply it to the community by helping make it a more sustainable place. By properly recycling electronic waste, and giving clothing and furniture a longer "life span" GUYG helps maintain the environment. <p>My name is Mary Van Vliet and I am part of the project Give Us Your Goods, run by SIFE Brock University. GUYG strives to give back to the community by using environmental strategies to accomplish positive social changes. <p>My name is Tikvah Mindorff and I volunteer with DIG at Brock. I became involved with DIG at its very inception with the cofounder, Omar Mosquera. We find that the environment is a great vehicle for education while honing some practical skills at the same time! Our urban agriculture is a great way to get in tune with the environment as well as learn more about our local and global community. <p>My name is Rachel and I’m Brock’s Student Leadership and Engagement Coordinator.
