Laura Brunton, B.Kin 2007

I was a transfer student to Brock in my second year, and I think it was the best choice I've ever made. In transferring I also changed my major, I went from studying Gerontology to Kinesiology and set up my future in that simple choice.

Kinesiology just made sense to me, and now I am pursuing my doctorate in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences combined with a Masters of Physical Therapy. Finding something that you excel in can have such a positive change on your outlook and can change your future in ways you never imagined. In my fourth year I took a chance and decided to do a research based thesis and I learned that what I thought was research was not at all what research was about.

Since then I have won 3 scholarships, have 4 published peer-review articles and have presented my own research at several national and international conferences.

If someone had told me 8 years ago when I was just graduating high school that I'd be doing a PhD I probably would have laughed and told them they were crazy. I can't wait to see what the next 8 years hold for me.
