Since my graduation in 2007 with an Honours Degree in Inclusive and Therapeutic Recreation, I have had so many great experiences! Using my practical experiences and book smarts that I learned at Brock I worked in a long term care centre as an Activation Coordinator. As working with seniors is a passion of mine, this position was a great fit for me. I was responsible for providing meaningful leisure experiences that catered to the physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs of the residents at the home - essentially enhancing the quality of life of the residents.
I also had an amazing opportunity to work as the Recreation Therapist and Volunteer Coordinator at a wonderful charity called The Darling Home for Kids. The Darling Home for Kids is a respite and palliative care centre for children who are medically fragile and/or technology dependent. I provided day to day recreation experiences, outings, and special events like making a float for the Santa Claus parade! I had the opportunity to organize siblings days, group volunteer days and promote the charity within the community.
After my amazing experience working with children, I have ventured back to working with seniors and am currently employed at a long term care centre as the Director of Resident and Family Services. I coordinate all aspects of the admission process into the home, coordinte wellness services and oversee the recreation/physiotherapy/restorative programs.
I am excited to see what else is in store for me!
