Policy and Submission Procedure
The Matheson Learning Commons is equipped with a four-screen LCD video wall (with speakers), suitable for the presentation of various forms of digital art. Designed to enhance the inviting and engaging atmosphere of the Learning Commons, the Digital Art Wall is situated at the busy south entrance, next to comfortable seating and group work areas. As a custom-made digital art venue, it facilitates and encourages the development of digital art in the Niagara region by promoting exhibitions that will showcase media art, instigate dialogue and expose the Brock community to this art form and its discourse.
Submissions by Brock University students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome. The Learning Commons Digital Art Wall Committee’s mandate is to consider all submissions and approve selections for exhibition.
Projects proposed for consideration must relate to the teaching, learning or research activities at Brock University and be artistic or educational in nature. The Digital Art Wall is not intended to be used for marketing purposes or as a bulletin-board type venue. Special consideration will be given to submissions that utilize the display space in innovative and creative ways. The Digital Art Wall resides within a study/work area and the needs of users will take precedence.
All proposals must be submitted on the Digital Art Wall Exhibit Proposal Submission Form for consideration by the Learning Commons Digital Art Wall Committee. Potential exhibitors will be contacted regarding the status of their proposed exhibit as soon as the Committee has met for adjudication. The Committee retains the right of refusal and is not obliged to accept every exhibit offered for display. If accepted, the Committee retains the right to approve any publicity.
The Digital Art Wall may not be used to promote or advertise, whether directly or indirectly, a commercial product or service; urge support or opposition to any political candidate or issue; or urge support of or opposition to any religion or religious belief.
The Committee reserves the right to delete or reject any content (without notice) that at our discretion is deemed abusive, defamatory, obscene, pornography or is in violation of copyright, trademark or other intellectual property rights.
An exhibition calendar will be maintained and updated regularly. The calendar will be based on the following criteria:
Exhibitors are responsible for producing professional looking materials and media.
To facilitate review, the exhibit must be made available for adjudication by the provision of an accompanying Internet link (eg. Youtube, Vimeo). The Committee will also accept physical submission on DVD or USB key, although this may slow down the adjudication process. Any physical media submitted must be clearly labeled with exhibitor's name and contact email address. Physical media may be submitted to any member of the Digital Art Wall Committee.
Exhibitors must include a short statement (200 words) describing the project which will be included on signage mounted in the pillar-mounted holder across from the Digital Art Wall. Identification of the creator and contact information must be included.
A single .JPG image (1280x720) should also be provided which may be used for promotional purposes on this site or as a thumbnail image on signage. (This image may be copied for adjudication purposes only.)
Any special costs incurred in setting up and dismantling the exhibit and for any damage caused to the display space are the responsibility of the exhibitor.
The use of the Learning Commons for events, lectures, receptions, etc. held in conjunction with an exhibit requires the approval of the Learning Commons Digital Art Wall Committee.
Installation/take down must occur at the agreed date and time, and must be done weekdays between 8:30 am and 4:00 pm.
For technically complex exhibits, technical expertise and guidance may be available for installation and setup.
Exhibitors must check their display regularly to ensure that it remains functional and in good operating order.
Please note: Audio cannot be displayed as it disturbs users in work/study spaces.
