Brock International Speaker Series: Leigh Pritchard, PhD Candidate
On Tuesday February 8, 2011, as part of International Development Week, Brock International with the support of the Government of Canada provided through the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), hosted a talk by Leigh Pritchard, PhD Candidate in Educational Studies at Brock University. The talk was entitled “Suspending Judgement: Experiences of internship in South Africa”. Leigh shared with listeners about her recent experience as a Students for Development (SFD) intern at North-West University. In Fall 2010, she undertook research mentored jointly by North-West University and Brock University faculty, attended meetings, workshops, visited schools and attended many special events and activities. Leigh's presentation was attended by a large number of staff and students from the Faculty of Education, as well as by members of the Brock community.
Following Leigh’s talk was a brief information session on the Students for Development (SFD)program by Claire Millington, Manager of International Initiative & Exchanges from the Association for Universities and Colleges of Canada (AUCC). The information session highlighted CIDA's priority themes regarding the SFD program as well as benefits of the program to students, foreign institutions and Canadian institutions.
