On Wednesday October 13, 2010 Brock International in partnership with the Faculty of Education hosted Professor Joël C. Johnson from the Florida State University, Tallahassee. The talk was entitled: “Don’t You Know Who I Think I Am?” Representation and Meaning in Hip-Hop Music in the US: Floating Signifiers of African American Identity. Professor Johnson talked about the history of hip hop which started as a multicultural movement. He also introduced his analysis of hip hop reflecting the trends of the times.
The presentaion was held at the International Centre and was attended by members of the Brock Community including students from the Department of Communication, Popular Culture and Film, faculty and staff of the Faculty of Education and members of the International Community.
The event was an interesting one as guests were treated to music of African American origin, mostly hip hop.
