Marilyn Rose, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, has been appointed to the new Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance.
She joins the 10-member Quality Council as one of two academic colleagues. Her two-year appointment began on July 1.
The Quality Council was established by the Council of Ontario Universities (COU) earlier this year. This newly created provincial body is responsible for assuring the quality of all programs – undergraduate and graduate - leading to degrees and diplomas granted by Ontario’s publicly assisted universities.
This appointment provides Rose with an opportunity to carry on her active work with COU in the important area of quality assurance. She moves into this new role after serving for the past two years as a member of the COU task force that was responsible for shaping the Quality Council’s mandate and processes. Rose is the only task force member to be named to the new body.
“The creation of the Quality Council represents one of the most significant changes in the university system to come about in decades,” says Rose. “I’m very excited to have this opportunity to work with a new contingent of people who are dedicated to moving forward on issues of quality and accountability in post-secondary education in Ontario.
“I am hoping that my experience on the council will also benefit Brock’s understanding of the new processes and help to strengthen the University’s own quality assurance practices.”
Rose’s past experience in quality assurance will be a tremendous asset to the council says Donna Woolcott, Executive Director Quality Assurance, Ontario Universities Council on Quality Assurance.
"Dr. Rose brings a wealth of experience in quality assurance work to her role with the new Quality Council,” says Woolcott. “She has been a member of the Ontario Council of Graduate Studies for six years and has served as its Chair. We are delighted that she has agreed to serve on the new Council and share her expertise and experience as we embark on this transformative process.”
