What is this course?
CHSC 1F90 (Introduction to Community Health Sciences) Super Course is the first of its kind being offered at Brock. This course will run in a unique 3 week format and provide you will a full course credit.
Why should I take it?
This is the perfect course for you!
CHSC 1F90 is a required course for Child Health, Community Health, Health Sciences and Public Health; if you are thinking about changing your major to one of these programs, taking this course now will allow you to register in upper year CHSC courses this September!
Seriously! How will this course get done in three weeks?
Students will come to class from 9am-6pm for two weeks: May 3-7 and May 10-14. Exams will be held on Saturday May 8th and Saturday May 15th both from 2-5pm.
The weekdays will look like this:
9:00-9:50 (Lecture – Topic A)
10:00-10:50 (Lecture – Topic A)
11:00-11:50 (Computer Seminar – Topic A)
12:00-12:50 (Lunch Break)
1:00-1:50 (Lecture – Topic B)
2:00-2:50 (Lecture – Topic B)
3:00-3:50 (Computer Seminar – Topic B)
4:00-4:50 (Test Prep Period)
5:00-5:50 (Daily Test – Topics A and B)
The third week will be a Course Make Up Review day where students have the chance to rewrite one of their tests if they like.
Bonus: Students are not required to come to any classes or seminars in the third week.
What are the assignments for this course?
Computer Seminars: 20%
Seminars will always follow 2 hours of lecture material on the same topic. A total of 20 seminars worth 1% each will constitute 20% of your final grade.
Daily Tests: 30%
Tests will encompass materials addressed during lecture and required readings from the textbook discussed over the course of the same day. A total of 10 daily tests, each valued at 3%, will be administered at the end of each day. Each test will involve 50 multiple choice questions and will be 50 minutes in duration.
Exam 1: 25% and Exam 2: 25%
Exam 1 and 2 will be administered on the Saturday following each week of lectures. Exams will encompass materials addressed in lecture and from required readings discussed over the course of the previous week. Each exam is valued at 25% of your final grade. Exams will include a combination of 200 multiple choice and true/false questions and will be 3-hours in duration. Students MUST complete the exams on the prescribed days.
Students can choose to come in on the third week to make up ONE of the daily test. Only ONE makeup is allowed per student.
