The Personal Counselling Service is glad to provide some of its services in a group or workshop format. When individuals come together in a group with a common interest, their potential for learning and development is enhanced in some ways that are impossible to achieve in one to one counselling.
We offer a variety of groups depending on interest and the University's needs. They range from some that are loosely structured and meet for several sessions like "Body Image Weight Preoccupation" to short (45 minute) presentations on psychological topics of interest like "The Grieving Process". Some groups are time limited (meeting for a few predetermined sessions) and provide a structure to assist participants in developing understanding and skills like "Coping With Stress and Anxiety". If you would like us to develop a group on a topic of importance to you, we will try to accommodate your needs. We would also be glad to help you start up a self help group or to come into your class or seminar to make a presentation. To discuss your group needs in person, just come into the office (ST400) or call Ext. 3240 to make an appointment to talk with the Les McCurdy-Myers the Manager of the service. You can also email him or call him at Ext. 4123.
