Board ratifies agreement with CUPE 4207 Unit 3

On March 20, Brock University’s Board of Trustees ratified a new collective agreement that had been reached between the University and CUPE Local 4207 Unit 3, which represents ESL instructors at Brock.

The union members had ratified the agreement on March 18.

The three-year collective agreement is retroactive to 7 July 2014, and is effective to 6 July 2017.

A draft of the new collective agreement will be available on the University’s website shortly.

 

 


CUPE 4207 Unit 3 vote to ratify collective agreement

The members of CUPE Local 4207 Unit 3, which represents ESL instructors at Brock University, voted on Wednesday 18 March to ratify a tentative collective agreement that had been reached last weekend with the University.

The University’s board of trustees are to hold a ratification vote on Friday 20 March.

The tentative agreement had been reached on 15 March with the assistance of a conciliator. When ratified by both sides, it would replace the previous collective agreement which expired on 6 July 2014.


University commits to continued talks as “no-board report” issued

The University and CUPE 4207-3, representing ESL Instructors, have been bargaining for a renewal collective agreement since June 2014. The parties have met with a provincially appointed mediator in conciliation on three occasions since November, and the Union recently requested what is commonly known as a “no-board report”, the first step toward a legal strike or lockout.

A “no-board report” was issued on Feb. 28, and the Union has posted on its website that a strike deadline of March 17 at 12:01am has been set.

The University is committed to continued talks with the Union to reach a renewal collective agreement, and will provide further updates to the Brock community as discussions continue.

IATSE meeting set; conciliation continues with CUPE 4207-3

Brock University and IATSE, Local 461 representing stagehands, are scheduled to meet on Feb. 18, following IATSE’s request for the appointment of a conciliation officer on Dec. 8, 2014.

Conciliation is a process by which a union or employer can apply to the Ontario Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliation officer, who will try to assist the parties to reach a collective agreement.

CUPE 4207-3 – Bargaining continues with the assistance of a conciliation officer.  To date, the parties have met three times in conciliation.

Further updates will be provided to the community as discussions continue.


Conciliation requested in bargaining with CUPE 4207-3

CUPE 4207-3, which represents ESL Instructors, filed a request for the appointment of a conciliation officer, following the fourth meeting between the parties on Sept 11. The collective agreement between Brock University and CUPE 4207-3 expired on July 6.

Conciliation is a process by which a union or employer can apply to the Ontario Ministry of Labour to appoint a conciliation officer, who will try to assist the parties to reach a collective agreement.

The University remains committed to a negotiated settlement and looks forward to continuing our discussions with CUPE 4207-3 to reach a collective agreement.

Collective bargaining updates

BUFA — After meeting on a number of occasions, the Parties have mutually agreed to pre-conciliation mediation. The first meeting with the mediator will be on Aug 6. The collective agreement expired on June 30.

IATSE — Bargaining committees for the University and IATSE have met twice. The parties plan to continue bargaining and are in the process of scheduling additional dates. The collective agreement expired on June 5.

CUPE 4207-3 — Bargaining committees for the University and CUPE 4207-3 have met twice and are scheduled to meet again on July 30. The collective agreement expired on July 6.
