Confucius Institute Speaker Series: Wang Tianliang, Dean and professor of the Arts Department of Minjiang University and member of the Chinese Artists Association
On May 30, 2011, as part of the ongoing Grand Opening of the Confucius Institute at Brock University, Brock hosted our first speaker for the Confucius Institute Speaker Series, Fujian lacquer artist Wang Tianliang. Mr. Wang is the Dean and a Professor of the Fine Arts & Design College at Minjiang University, in Fuzhou, China. An accomplished artist in his own right, Mr. Wang discussed "The Continuation of Lacquer Art." Mr. Wang's discussion touched on the formation of this ancient lacquer as architecture, weaponry and art. He discussed lacquer art's influence around the world and its development in China and other Asian nations. A master of lacquer art, Mr. Wang also shared his views on art and his own personal style of abstract lacquer art.
