RACER Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. What's my Login?
Your Login is your Brock ID number.
2. I forgot my password? How do I find out what it is?
Interlibrary Loan staff do not have access to password information as it is confidential, but, if you come to the Library, they will help you to reset your password. Please ask for assistance at the James A. Gibson Library’s Circulation Services or Help desks.
3. I found the item I want in RACER. How do I request it?
Click on Get It!
If you are requesting a book, you need only select your pickup location on the ILL Book form.
If you are requesting a journal article, you must also fill in the specific article information on the Journal Article ILL form, e.g. author's name, article title, volume, issue and pages
4. I did not find my item in RACER. How do I request it?
Click on Blank Request Form on the left hand toolbar under My Account and fill out a blank request form. Please note that there are separate forms for requesting books and journal articles.
5. Do I need to know what Library has my item before I request it?
No, Interlibrary Loan staff will locate the material for you.
6. How do I check the status of my request?
Login to RACER and click on My Account on the left hand toolbar, then click on GO! A list of your requests will be displayed
7. Why was my request canceled?
The most common reason for a canceled request is that the item is available at Brock, either in-print or online. Please check the Library Catalogue before submitting ILL requests. If the material you need has been signed out, you can place a 'Hold' on it through the Library Catalogue.
Other reasons for cancelation are:
-incomplete or inaccurate information
-no library locations can be found, or item is non-circulating
-the "need by" date in the request has expired

8. How will I be notified that my item has arrived and how do I get it?
You will be notified by e-mail when your material has arrived. Please read your e-mail messages carefully. You are responsible for monitoring the status of your requests.
If you are an eligible community or alumni user, or undergraduate or graduate student, your material will be available for pickup at the Circulation Services Desk.
If you are faculty or staff , journal articles will be mailed to you, but books must be picked up at the Circulation Services Desk. Please return books in-person to the Circulation Services Desk, by the due date on the book band. Do not remove the book band.
9. I requested some material which has not come in yet. What should I do?
ILL material usually comes in within 5 to 10 working days, but may take longer depending on the lending library. Do not re-request the item. Contact Interlibrary Loan staff at 905-688-5550 ext. 3231 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Be sure to note the e-mail address you provided when registering as a first-time user. We recommend changing this address to your Brock email address email@example.com. Again, do not hesitate to contact Library staff at any time to help with retrieving material in a timely manner.
10. How can I cancel my request in RACER?
Requests can be canceled through RACER. Login to RACER and click on My Account on the left hand toolbar, then click on GO! A list of your requests will be displayed. Click on Cancel for requests that can be canceled.
Please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with the request number of the item you wish to cancel, or come into the Library and check with Interlibrary Loan staff.
11. Are there any RACER fees or charges?
The Library subsidizes the costs of obtaining research materials. In most instances RACER materials obtained from local, regional and Ontario academic libraries do not involve a charge. However, users are responsible for all additional charges imposed by the lending library. These charges may include additional lending, photocopying, copyright, shipping, or brokerage fees, and must be paid when items are picked up. Qualified Community, Extramural and Alumni are charged on a cost recovery basis for books and microform materials. All ILL fees and charges are listed on the ILL Policies web page. All charges are added to the user's library circulation account.
