Impact of Brock research showcased in forum

Brock University is hosting a research café this week to explore some of the real-world applications of research undertaken by faculty and graduate students.
The Wednesday, Nov. 25 event is the first of three that combine to make up the Mapping the New Knowledges conference, a collaboration of Brock Research, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Students’ Association.
“Research for a Changing World” brings together faculty and graduate students from Social Sciences, Education and Humanities, along with a representative of the Niagara community. David Siegel, director, Niagara Community Observatory, will moderate the discussion, which includes presentations followed by an open discussion time.
“This is an exciting opportunity to highlight the outstanding research undertaken by Brock faculty with their graduate students,” says Marilyn Rose, dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies. “The presentations will demonstrate some of the ways in which research underway in Niagara today will contribute very positively to the world of tomorrow.”
The diverse range of topics covered includes the impact of sleep on waking cognition; the use of computer simulations in history studies; how an integrated curriculum influenced practices at an Ontario school board; and discussion on a newly released report on the wellbeing of Niagara’s children.
Presenters include: Susan Drake, education professor; Kevin Kee, assistant history professor; and Kimberly Cote, associate professor in psychology. The community presenter will be Sandra Noel, a Data Analysis Co-ordinator with Ontario Early Years, Niagara Region, through Niagara Region Public Health.
The free event takes place in Pond Inlet, starting with a reception and light refreshments at 4:30 p.m. The panel presentations will take place between 5 and 6:30 p.m., to be followed by group discussion.
