UPDATE: Cairns Complex incident (Aug. 9)

‎The Cairns Complex at Brock is open. The fourth-floor of the building is still being cleaned up and will be re-opened later today.

The affected lab from yesterday’s incident, lab 466, will remain closed and off limits until further notice.

Campus Security is present in the building to help out with fourth-floor access if needed. For additional assistance, please contact x3200.

UPDATE: Cairns Complex incident (Aug. 8)

The student sent to hospital as a result of today’s incident in the Cairns Complex was released more than a couple of hours ago with minor injuries.

Clean up continues and the building will re-open tomorrow (Saturday Aug. 9) at 7 a.m.

Access to the fourth floor remains unavailable until further notice.

Chemical fire evacuates, closes Cairns Complex at Brock (Aug. 8)

An incident that caused a chemical fire in one of the labs in the Cairns Family Health and Bioscience Research Complex at Brock University has sent one student to hospital with injuries and has temporarily closed the research facility.

The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. in a fourth-floor lab and caused fire and water damage due to the building’s sprinkler system being triggered.

As a result, extensive assessment and cleanup is now taking place and the Cairns Complex will remain temporarily closed until further notice.

Access to the building is currently unavailable. For emergency access please contact Campus Security at x3200.

The building is anticipated to re-open sometime over the weekend. As more info about re-opening the facility becomes available, it will be posted at www.brocku.ca
