SOCI Researcher Receives CRISS Grant to Produce Film

Published on July 15 2014

Dr. Lauren Corman (SOCI) recently received a grant from the Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) to produce a film that will document the growing animal movements that work at the intersection of animal advocacy and other social justice issues.  According to Dr. Corman, "In a world fraught with human and environmental problems, why should people care about animals? This film will explore the rise of a new kind of animal advocacy that centralizes the connection between social and environmental justice movements. From domestic violence and pet abuse, to Indigenous sovereignty and the fur industry, to human and animal cultural sustainability, the documentary will call us to look at animal issues anew in our own backyards and across oceans." Details about this project can be gathered from Dr. Corman.
