Economics Professor Studies Renewable Energy

Dr. A. Marcel Oestreich has received funding from the Council for Research in the Social Sciences (CRISS) to study renewable energy sources in the province of Ontario.  Specifically, Dr. Oestreich states that "This research project will analyze the impact of renewable power sources, especially wind and hydro power, on electricity prices, other non-renewable power sources and on emissions created during electricity generation. The analysis is focused on the province Ontario, which has existing hydro power capacity of around 22 percent of total generation and wind power capacity of approximately 3 percent of total generation. I expect to find answers to questions, such as: How do wind power and hydro power jointly influence the electricity price in Ontario in the short term?"  Queries about this project can be directed to Dr. Oestreich.
