Reading Clinic Summer BBQ

Published on June 12 2012

June 21, 2012 will mark the Reading Clinic’s inaugural outreach barbeque where they will be celebrating the achievements of their current students.

Taking place from 4 – 8 p.m. the barbeque (held beside Alphie's Bistro) is designed to spread the word about the clinic’s services and to raise funds for scholarships for clients who require the clinic’s services but are unable to afford them. The summer barbeque will offer a variety of different booths and activities for which parents and children alike can participate.

Activities such as a literacy scavenger hunt, reader’s theatre, a read aloud, phonemic ball in a basket, creative writing, quackie spelling and a marshmallow spelling bee all have underlying literacy components that promote the clinic’s three main areas of focus; decoding and fluency, reading comprehension and writing.

The Scholastic Book Fair is also coming to the reading clinic during the week of June 18-22, including the evening of the summer barbeque. For every $10 that is spent at the Book Fair, up to $6 goes directly back to the Reading Clinic. Support of this fundraiser is paramount to obtaining new books and resources for the clinic’s resource library.
