Introducing New Graduate Spaces in the James A. Gibson Library
Published on July 20 2011
The Library is pleased to welcome graduate students into two new, comfortable spaces for research and collaboration. Located on the 6th floor of the James A. Gibson Library, the Graduate Study Room and Graduate Meeting Room offer space for both quiet research pursuits as well as room for presentations and group meetings.
The Library's investment in creating a dedicated space for graduate students emerged from consultations with current graduate students and program directors. Margaret Grove, University Librarian, notes, "With the growth in graduate programs at Brock University, the Library has been examining the needs of graduate students for some time. We are thrilled to open these new spaces, which are designed to foster both individual study and collaboration."
Graduate students and program directors overwhelmingly identified quiet research and study space as a high priority in discussions about the proposed renovation. A well-equipped presentation space was also deemed essential for informal meetings and preparing for presentations and thesis defenses. Features in the new rooms, such as large study carrels and bookable lockers nearby, address additional needs for space to spread out research materials and storage for long days on campus.
The new graduate spaces are available to all new and returning graduate students, during the opening hours of the Library, through card-swipe access. For more information, please visit: http://brocku.ca/library/services-lib/grad-students/grad-study-space.
