Laura Prelipcean won a Doctoral Completion Award offered by the University of Toronto. Currently, she is completing a Ph.D. in Italian Studies at the University of Toronto under the direction of Professor Konrad Eisenbichler. In her Ph.D. dissertation, "Women, Gender, and Innovation in Lodovico Domenichi's Works," Laura analyzes Domenichi's dialogue on women La nobiltà delle donne [On the Nobility of Women], 1549, and his lyric anthology Rime diverse d'alcune nobilissime et virtuosissime donne [Assorted Rhymes by Some Very Noble and Famous Women], 1559, in light of their contribution to the debate on the querelle des femmes [the question of women] in the sixteenth century and as a reflection of their author's involvement with the wider cultural world of contemporary women. Laura expects to defend her dissertation in 2011. She has been teaching Italian at the Departement of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures since 2009.
