2010 Orientation Week at Brock

Published on September 02 2010

This September, Brock will welcome more than 17,000 new and returning students to campus for the beginning of the 2010-11 school year.

Throughout O-Week, taking place Monday, Sept. 6 to Sunday, Sept. 12, there will be plenty of opportunities for students to soak up the Brock experience, both on and off campus.

The following are just some of the events planned for 2010 O-Week at Brock:

* Residence move-in blitz (Monday, Sept. 6, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.): Six hours, 2,400 students and their families, and more than 100 volunteers. In its traditional one-day residence move-in blitz, Brock will welcome thousands of students to its six residence complexes.

* Live Burn (Monday, Sept. 6, 8 to 8:30 p.m. D parking lot): Controlled “live burn” of mock rooms designed and furnished to resemble a typical student’s room. The demo provides students with a real-time illustration of how quickly fire can spread.

* Tower Party and Guinness World Record attempt (Monday, Sept. 6, 9 p.m., base of Schmon Tower): Outdoor dance party with a live DJ and delicious mock-tails. Come dressed in Badger colours for your chance to win massive prizes for the best dressed. You’ll also have the opportunity to be part of a Guinness World Record attempt for the Largest Beatbox Ensemble at around 10:45 p.m. Free for Access Gold members, $5 for non-members.

* Vendor and Club Fair (Tuesday, Sept. 7 and Wednesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in front of Schmon Tower): Two days of activities, live music and giveaways featuring student clubs, local businesses and services available at Brock and in St. Catharines.

* Hush-Hush party (Tuesday, Sept. 7, 7 p.m., Weather Station Field): The newest addition to the O-Week line up. Interactive games, celebrity guest appearances, a New Years trip giveaway and a dance party so silent you could hear a pin drop. Come out to hear what everyone is whispering about.

* Academic Orientation (Wednesday, Sept. 8, various sessions, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.): A chance for students to meet professors and classmates in their faculties and majors.

* Concert (Wednesday, Sept. 9, 8 to 11 p.m., Weather Station Field): Back to school show for Brock students.

* Shineday 2010 (Saturday, Sept. 11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.): Brock students join other students from across Canada to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research. An opportunity for students to volunteer around Niagara and help raise money for a notable cause. This year the Brock University Students’ Union has set a goal of $40,000.
