Computing and Network Communications

OUAC Code:
Bachelor of Science
4-Year BSc (Honours) Computing and Network Communications Co-op
Program Description:
The Department of Computer Science at Brock and the School of Applied Computing and Engineering Sciences at Sheridan College have developed a program by which you are a student interested in pursuing a career in information technology and can complete a four-year degree from Brock in Computing and Network Communications and a three-year diploma in Telecommunications Technology from Sheridan College.

This program caters to the increasing demand in the information technology industry for professionals who have a solid foundation in software development as well as practical technical skills in system security, telecommunications, network analysis and administration. Normally this involves attending college after gaining a university degree, but the Brock and Sheridan program combines the two in a single integrated package.

Students in the program spend three terms at Brock where you study the foundations of computer science, followed by three terms at Sheridan College where you study network communications in a hands-on environment. The final two terms alternate between Brock and Sheridan where the final courses are completed.

This program is offered as a co-op program only. Co-op programs allow you to combine academic and work terms and gain valuable work experience. The degree will be completed over four and one-half years, and will include three four-month work terms. You’ll complete three academic terms prior to beginning your first work placement.

With small classes and a tight-knit student community, you interact with dedicated faculty and other students in an effective learning environment that incorporates theory and practice. Our co-op students and graduates are welcomed into the workplace as valued employees in a variety of fields such as RIM, Google, Silicon Knights, IBM, and the Ministry of Transportation. Many honours graduates go on to successfully complete MSc and higher degrees both at Brock and universities such as University of Toronto, Simon Fraser, Waterloo and Dalhousie.
